Hello, and Welcome

I’m Beth Stark, and I’ll be your guide.

UDL Resources is a no-cost collection for anyone learning about Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Some of the resources are mine. Others come from people and organisations I trust, including CAST, Dr. Loui Lord Nelson and the organisations behind the UDL resource collections.

About This Guided Tour

This tour is a way into the collection. It is not a full course on UDL. If you want to go deeper after the tour, Part 6 points you to the UDL Essentials LiveBinder, LUDIA and other places to keep learning.

The Goal of UDL

Everything in this collection points back to one goal.

“The goal of UDL is learner agency that is purposeful & reflective, resourceful & authentic, strategic & action-oriented.”

CAST (2024)

You will come back to this goal in Part 2.

How This Guided Tour Works

  • There are six short parts. Each one takes 3 to 6 minutes, including time to explore. The tour helps you find your way around. Come back to any resource whenever you like.
  • There are no tests, scores or certificates. Nothing you do is saved or sent anywhere.
  • Go in order, or skip to the part you need. The list of all six parts is at the top of every page.
  • Each part has three steps. Learn a key idea. Explore the resources yourself, with a suggested time. Reflect on one question, on your own or with a colleague.

Before You Start

  1. Open UDL Resources in another tab, so you can look around as we go.
  2. Try Accessibility and Settings in the site menu. You can change the font, text size, spacing and colours, or have the page read aloud.
  3. Bring something real to the tour, such as a lesson, a unit or a meeting you are planning.

Explore About 2 minutes

Open Choose a Topic on UDL Resources. Look inside each of the five topics. Notice one resource you want to come back to.

A Note About Me

I began my career teaching students who are blind and low vision. I then spent sixteen years as the Secondary School Learning Support Coordinator at an IB international school. Today I work with international schools on UDL and accessibility.

Beth’s Tip

Keep your lesson, unit or meeting in mind the whole way through. Each part will mean more when you can connect it to something you are already doing.

Reflect

What do you already know about UDL, and what do you hope to get from this tour?
